We can all at some point lose or mislay our car keys or house keys at the most inconvenient of times. Losing keys or having them stolen can be a real cause of concern, but with MSL key cover insurance policies, help is just a phone call away.

Our policy will provide access to a nationwide network of locksmiths via our emergency helpline. They will make sure your customers can access their car or home and provide them with peace of mind.

What is covered?

Our policy covers all of a customer’s house and car keys in the event that they are irretrievably lost or stolen during the policy period meaning a customer cannot gain access to their home or vehicle. Customers can also opt for a policy for house or motor keys separately.

Product features to consider

Replacement keys for today’s ever more sophisticated vehicles can cost more than £200. If customers do decide to claim for lost or stolen keys on a comprehensive motor policy, it can affect the no claim bonus or lead to an increased renewal premium.

If customers have a large excess under their household policy, they may well have to contribute to a claim for lost and stolen house keys. Under our stand-alone policy if house keys are lost or stolen there is no excess if you make a claim.

Comprehensive motor insurance policies in many cases will not cover keys that are lost or mislaid. Others will cover them but only if they are stolen and not lost. Some will cover keys only if they are stolen from a vehicle. To give certainty to customers, it makes sense to be sure and to take out a policy specifically designed to provide cover for lost and stolen car keys whatever the circumstances

Similarly, some home insurance policies will cover loss or theft of house keys for an additional premium payment but there is no standard approach across the market. Some insurers will not cover them at all, while others will cover them if they are stolen but not lost. As with all policies, customers need to check the small print to make sure that lost or stolen house keys are covered under their main home insurance policy.

If customers share house keys with family or friends and they lose them – will their household insurance policy cover that eventuality and pay for the replacement of locks? Our policy covers lost, or stolen house keys and will respond however or whoever loses the keys. Our primary concern is to get people back into their homes and secure their property.

This is an important feature as many keys now have to be provided by the vehicle manufacturer. Our policy provides peace of mind at a fair price. Our policy will also pay for a change to all the locks in the house – irrespective of whether the house keys are lost or stolen.

Our house key policy gives peace of mind for a small premium – usually, considerably less than a household policy excess would be.
