Covering the cost of repairs to or replacement of a damaged windscreen.

What is covered?

MSL’s policy covers the cost of repairing any accidental damage to a customer’s windscreen occurring after the start date of the insurance, covering the costs of a full windscreen replacement if repair is not possible.

Product features to consider

Driving with a cracked or damaged windscreen can be considered a driving offence leading to penalty points on a licence. It will also lead to an MOT failure. They may start off small but over time they can expand and eventually lead to shattered windscreens

Is windscreen damage covered in your customers motor insurance policy it may, or it may not. They will need to read the policy wording to see if windscreen damage is covered. It may be covered for an additional premium, it may have its own excess, or it may not be covered at all!!

With cars getting ever more sophisticated, windscreen displays are now becoming an integral part of the modern driving experience and more expensive to repair and replace. Windscreen damage repairs usually start at £50 but not every chip or scratch can be successfully repaired, and replacement may be the only option. To replace a windscreen cost anything from £130 to £500.

There is usually an excess that applies to repairs and replacements –this is shown in the policy schedule. However, when this is added to the windscreen premium it is usually a lot cheaper than the excess under a motor policy plus the possible loss of a no claims bonus or an increased motor renewal premium.
