Having a valid MOT certificate is a legal requirement for every vehicle over 3 years old in the UK. Driving without a valid MOT certificate is illegal and can bring with it a substantial fine – especially if the vehicle is found to be unsafe. Driving without a valid MOT also invalidates a motor insurance policy which in turn brings more penalties including points on a licence or even a driving ban.
The policy covers the cost for repairs, typically up to the value of £1,000, including parts and labour to make sure that a car gets through the MOT retest as soon as possible and get customers back on the road safely and legally, even covering the retest fee.
The latest figures show that each year around one-third of vehicles fail their MOT at the first time of asking. Many of these fails are down to relatively minor issues such as bulbs or tyre pressure but some can be down to more significant items like failings with suspension or brakes which are two of the most common reasons for failing the MOT.
Many customers rely on their car for work and to see family and friends, it can be very inconvenient to be without their vehicle due to an MOT failure. It may be that customers have sufficient funds to cover any unexpected repairs due to an MOT failure. However, if not then a MSL’s MOT Insurance policy may be the solution. It gives peace of mind that in the event of an MOT failure we can get a car back on the road quickly and with no large repair bills to worry about.
Our policy is tailored to only cover items inspected during an MOT. We cannot pay for other items not covered by an MOT.
Customers can only buy a policy if there is 90 days left on the current MOT certificate and the vehicle is under 10 years old at the time the policy is purchased.
Our policy, like all others, will not cover items known as “consumables”. In other words, bulbs, tyres and general wear and tear.
