Banned number plates: ’67 plates provide new headache for DVLA

In past years, such classics as BU62 GER, ST12 OKE and SC12 OTM have made the banned number plates list, and now the latest additions have been given to Auto Express. Standout examples include: DO67 GER, BA67 ARD, OR67 ASM and DO67 SHT.

No number plate that has ever made the banned list has ever been removed, and the DVLA has the power to force a driver to hand back a number plate if it is deemed to have slipped through the net.

Rude, silly and crude aren’t the only pre-requisites for a banned plate, the DVLA also includes anything that could be classed as racist, religiously offensive or drug related. Number plates with a political angle have also made the list, with EU16 OUT and EU16 GON removed, alongside any that end in BNP.

Private number plates are also under the purview of the DVLA, so anyone looking to sneak in a dirty joke for big bucks can think again.

The 2017 banned number plates list

Censors for the DVLA meet twice a year to decide with plates will be banned, with each new plate sequence offering up new and exciting ways to offend the general public.
